What would it look like if healthcare in our country was accessible, and allowed you autonomy over your body? Would we have better outcomes, less stress, more health?
What does health even look like?
We all know our healthcare system here in the US is deeply, deeply flawed. Providers are generally overworked and pushed by administrators to meet goals that are dangerous for the patient. Patients struggle to find time to see their providers, or struggle to afford healthcare/insurance. Providers talk about “low compliance” but rarely take the time to really understand what the needs of their patient are, or why they are struggling to enact the recommendations made. Meanwhile, insurance companies and huge hospital systems are basking in record profits every quarter.
I think we would all agree that people deserve accessible healthcare (among other basic needs) as we try to survive late stage capitalism. Every person deserves access to care that helps them achieve what their vision of health is in their body.
That’s where autonomy comes in, too. There is no “perfect health” that can be achieved by every human on Earth. What health looks like will be different to every person you speak with – and they should be the only person to determine what health would look like and feel like in their body. It is not a healthcare professional’s place to determine what a person’s health goals need to be – but so often they take it upon themselves to do just that. We frequently see that happening when women in particular are told their health issues are just “excess weight” or “anxiety” and their treatment plans then address weight loss, or anxiety management, completely ignoring the real issue that brought them into see their provider in the first place.
When a person is misunderstood like this it makes them less likely to seek care, but it also makes the care they receive way worse. Poor outcomes are common in a situation like this – the health issues a person experience are never figured out, the patient is labeled as “uncompliant” which makes providers less likely to provide quality care in the future.
While I’m not a medical provider, I do hope to provide accessible herbal care to my community AND respect the autonomy of my clients while doing so. I’ve set up my sliding scale to make those who are struggling to be able to access herbal care if they want to, and I vow to listen to my clients and work to educate them to achieve their health goals – not the goals I think would be best for them.
If you’re curious about what a holistic, herbal approach can do to help you achieve your health goals I invite you to book a consult with me using the link below – we can take a few hours to really dive deep into what you’re experiencing and the steps you can take to improve that experience!
To your health!

The Holistic Perspective
We all know what it’s like seeing an allopathic doctor, right? You wait weeks to months for an appointment, and finally the day comes. You get to the office and sit down with the doctor. All the time they have for you is 15 minutes, so you rush to tell them what’s...
